Summary
Enbido.eus is a full web platform to play Mus online. Mus is the traditional card game you see in Basque and Spanish bars, full of signals, bluffs and loud opinions. We built a place where people can play it, organise tournaments and meet other players, online and in person.
The idea
Mus is losing ground among younger people. And there was no single platform that brought together games, tournaments and the community around it. So our team decided to build one. Bringing a classic card game into the browser felt like a good way to keep it alive.
A team project
This was a group project with a team of five, in the second semester of my second year of Computer Engineering at Mondragon University. Everything on this page was built by the team together, and I’m describing the platform as a whole, not claiming any single part of it as mine.
How it works
- Frontend: React.
- Backend: Spring Boot, with a game engine that runs the Mus rules and real-time play.
- Database: MySQL.
- Infrastructure: Docker containers (Podman also came into play), an Nginx reverse proxy, a dedicated physical server, a VPN and automated continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Teamwork in Git: a
mainand adevbranch, one branch per person, and conventional commits (feat,fix,chore). Five people, one repo, very few tears.
On top of the game itself, the platform has:
- a friends list, with blocking for when friendship is not enough;
- direct messages and chat;
- in-person meetups with an interactive map;
- online and in-person tournaments with brackets;
- a cosmetics shop with an inventory, and secure transactions;
- notifications and sound preferences;
- internationalization, SEO optimisation and W3C validation.
Beyond the code
The project also included a statistical study applied to Mus, based on a field survey. It was designed with the Sustainable Development Goals in mind. We followed Problem Oriented Project Based Learning (POPBL) and built the platform step by step, in increments.
